Dyes

Like you, we care about what's next to your baby's skin. The inside layer of our diapers and wool covers are never dyed. We opt for minimally processed whenever possible. But colour IS fun and families like having that choice so when we do use dye, we do so only on the outside layer (of 2 layered products) and with the following specifications:
Organic Cotton Velour: We use fiber reactive, environmentally friendly dyes. These are non-heavy metal, low impact and approved for organic certification. If you don't know what all that means, don't worry. It took us a long time to learn it all too. Basically, that means it's safe, really safe and the process involved is also careful and thoughtful. The dyes react with the fabric leaving no chemicals or tainted waste water. It reduces the impact at almost every step.
For white (cotton velour and the sateen used on the Tres Tria as well as BFG tissues) we implement a process of double bathing the fabric in hydrogen peroxide. NO chlorine bleach is ever used on our products! Hydrogen Peroxide is a gentle, easy way to whiten and make consistent the diverse colour of natural cotton.
Wool: Sometimes wool is a little harder to dye. The process often involved the added element of heat which of course increases the impact but again, dyes are always tested for safety and we choose the most environmentally friendly available.
